Coaching Courses

This course is aimed at anyone aged 16 or older who is interested in learning the basics of coaching hockey.  The course is conducted in one 3-hour session and the fee is R420.

This course is aimed at anyone aged 16 or older who is interested in learning the fundamentals of goalkeeper coaching.  Applicants must have a current SAHA Level 0 coaching qualification to qualify for this course.  The course is conducted in one 3-hour session and the fee is R420.

This course is aimed at coaches aged 18 or older who are interested in progressing their coaching career to older age groups – to senior phase (ages 12 and 13), high school and club hockey.  The course is designed to assist coaches in the advancement of players' knowledge and ability in the 11-a-side game.  Applicants must have a current SAHA Level 0 coaching qualification to qualify for the course.  It is also assumed that candidates have some experience of coaching.  The course is usually conducted on one day over a total of 6 hours or sometimes over two days in two 3-hour sessions.  The course fee is R760.

This course is not available yet – its syllabus is currently being finalised and the SAHA Academy hopes to roll it out in 2024.  Details will be published here as soon as possible.

This course has been designed to assist Level 1 accredited coaches in gaining additional hockey knowledge as well as to assess their competency to participate in a SAHA Level 2 coaching course.  Applicants must have a current SAHA Level 1 coaching accreditation which had been obtained at least one year prior to the commencement of the Level 2 Bridging course.  The course is presented online in six weekly two-hour sessions, or face-to-face on one weekend.  The course fee is R995.

This course is aimed at individuals who have completed the SAHA Level 2 Bridging Course and have been deemed competent enough to progress to the next level.  It equips candidates to coach youth first teams at under-13 to under-18 level and all levels of club hockey.  The course duration is three days and candidates are assessed on participation as well as theoretical and practical presentations.  The course fee varies based on actual costs incured to present it and will be published as and when courses are arranged.

This course is aimed at individuals who have completed the SAHA Level 2 course and meet the following criteria:

• Head coach of a senior club (minimum two years' experience)
• Provincial and/or national under-16 / under-18 level coaching (minimum two years' experience)
• Head coach of a premier league or under-18 A league team (minimum two years' experience)

The course is designed for coaches to progress to a more advanced high performance coaching level and takes place over three days.  Candidates must deliver theory presentations and conduct practical sessions based upon specific tactical principles.  The course fee varies based on actual costs incured to present it and will be published as and when courses are arranged.
